Tuesday Soul Session
I want to apologize.
I was unable to make my weekly Sunday soulful session due to the fact that I was incredibly distraught and in furious rage at the Chargers “losing” on Sunday. I say “losing” because I know a robbery when I see one.
That is all I shall say on the topic – time for the music.
Kenna ft. Lupe Fiasco – Say Goodbye To Love (rmx)
Kenna most likely is a singer that you have never heard of but the man is on the Star Trak label so he is privy to the much sought after Neptunes production – therefore you should pay attention. The original version of this song is the jam, but adding Lupe into the mix is a nice complement to an already quality song. Kenna doesn’t have the most soothing voice in music industry, he can be likened to the lead singer of Bloc Party, but the beat is ridiculous so grab this song when you get the chance.
Ludacris, ft. Chris Brown, Sean Garrett – I Know What Them Girls Like
95% of the time I only need a fraction of a listening session of a song to know whether it is something worth my time or not. But for those other songs that happen to be outcast into the fifth percentile bracket, sometimes it takes a little bit more whet my musical appetite. In the case of this new song by Luda, it took the viewing of the music video for me to become enamored with the song. There is nothing spectacular about the music video and it doesn’t play coy or make use of metaphors to better illustrate its subject matter – it is as blunt and direct as possible. The music video depicts a typical club scene with beautiful ladies frolicking about, along with a sprinkling of Luda’s infamous sense of humor.
Do you see why I like the video and the song now?
Could it be for Ludacris’s fresh and witty delivery as he frivolous delves into the minds of women?
Could it be Chris Brown’s often anatomically baffling dance moves? Or maybe it is a more carnal and primitive reason, as it is clearly evident that the video is littered with so much revealing skin.
It is actually none of the above – kind of.
The only real reason I like this song is due to the stunning beauty that is woman with the light pigmentation, dress in white with a mind numbingly curvaceous body.
Not sure which one that is? Try the chica with the shaved head.
Yes, I know; women usually come with hair longer than that. But I think it can be agreed that this voluptuous beauty is an exception to the rule.
Not to be crass, but she is incredibly hot. Volcanic Hot. I’m sure she’s caused many eruptions during her time on this planet.
What is one feature that stands out and helps distinguish a female the most, yet most men take for granted?
The Hair.
What is incredibly attractive about this particular woman, who I would like to believe is named Ambrosia, is that she is endowed with natural beauty and yet she has the tenacity to go ahead and shave off her hair in order to emphasize her other striking features.
Or maybe she just shaved her head for the hell of it. Either way, she is truly a golden goddess and she has definitely smitten the heart of one individual.
Keri Hilson ft. Lil Wayne – Turn Me Off
Remember how I said 95% of the songs I listen to, I know if it is of quality or not with only a short listening of the song? I had made up my decision on this song within the first ten seconds. The beat resonates deceptively within one’s self and immediately hooks the listener with ease. It starts off slowly then builds to a crescendo, but doesn’t fully crest as it continues the vibe it has created throughout the song and carries it gracefully to the end. I have no idea why Keri Hilson is singing like the way she does in the song, but it works somehow.
People Under The Stairs – Anotha BBQ
Do you know what originally drew me to hip hop? It wasn’t the angst ridden lyrics of oppression or hatred for the cops, nor was it the enjoyment of hearing sexually charged rhymes and descriptions of women that physically couldn’t possibly exist.
It was the storytelling.
Snoop Dogg was the absolute best at this. He has a gift to paint a story that slowly unveils before your eyes as if you are walking with him through his many chronic influenced travels and struggles. He is adept at portraying a story that one does not need to close the eyes in order to truly imagine the tale he weaves – it blooms before one’s face like a single rose in a garden.
That is exactly what occurs on this song by People Under The Stairs as they illuminate the less knowledgeable on how a typical barbeque can slowly formulate from the barest of elements.
Devin the Dude – I Can’t Make It Home
Another smooth crooning storyteller coming into full effect – Devin the Dude comes through with a classic in the making. This is a perfect song to listen and indulge in while enjoying the affects of our friend Mr. Alcohol.
Robin Thicke ft. Jay-Z – Magic (Mick Boogie rmx)
This song is infinitely better than the original.
It has a catchy beat that immediately grabs your attention from the commencement of the song. The addition of Jay-Z to the smooth vocals of Mr. Thicke helps the song transcend from the typical R&B song and into the avenue of potential mainstream popularity.
On a sidenote, Robin Thicke really needs to change his name. Not only does the guy look George Michael, but he’s got a pornstar name. Robin Thicke? Mr. Thicke? Seriously? He needs to change his name to Robbie Z or something that sounds a little less like a description for his little friend. Or change his name to Maximus – you can never go wrong with a name like Maximus. But then again his wife is Paula Patton – so what do I know?
That’s all the music I have for you guys today; be sure to check in next Sunday as I will be returning to my regularly scheduled postings.
Stay classy till then my friends.
